Focus Group and Analysis
Back in June/July I planned to make a preliminary task which would allow me to test out a variety of different camera angles, cuts as well as trialing filming in an outside location. This preliminary task has shown me that although their were a lot of positives, it also meant issues were flagged up. For example, I was able to share my final version with 2 members of my class and could gather their feedback. Whether this was positive or constructive. The 3 of us all sat down together and watched through the videos. I was then able to ask them what they liked about the clip as well as what I could have improved on.
Having this focus group, I felt was a positive situation as I was able to look back and evaluate the comments which were said and it allowed me to delve in with more depth about what they had said and why they exactly thought this. From speaking with the 2 other students they said lots of positive comments about my preliminary task. These were as follows:
- Sound clip quality
- Filming location
The sound clips within my preliminary task were made a little awkward by the fact I was filming outside. This made it a little difficult when it came to me editing my final preliminary video. This was because the outside noise was different and I was often interrupted with other uncontrollable events such as cars and other members of the public. This has meant that I will have to re-think my shooting environment needs to be considered in more detail. I also was made aware of a piece of equipment which could be also used to limit the extra external sounds. This is could a wind shield and will be placed on the microphone. This I feel will make the speech of my actors much more clear and will also make the clip easily editable.
Another comment which was made was they felt the location for filming was good and visually appeaing. This I felt gave me some good experiences as I am now aware the my shooting schedule, including time of the day is extremely important as time and daylight during the winter months become limited. When I come to filming my horror trailer I will need to take this into consideration and make sure that all of my shooting schedules are up to date and ready to go.
Overall, I am genuinely happy with how my preliminary task has turned out and it has made me much more aware for when I start the preparation in to my horror trailer.

Focused well on improvements to help you when you next do something like this. What do you think will be the main difference if you use a decent microphone?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Matt. The main difference in sound if I use a decent microphone, would be that it is clear and there will be less background noise. This would be easier to edit ensuring my preliminary video is a professional finihsed product
